How It Works

I Hate Trivia is a browser-based multiplayer game. There is nothing to download: one player creates a private room, shares the five-character code, and everyone plays from their own screen.

1. Create or join a room

The host chooses a game format and creates the room. Everyone else selects Join a room, enters the room code, and picks a unique display name. The waiting room shows exactly who has joined before the match begins.

2. Pick the rules

Classic rotates category selection between players across several rounds. Battle gives everyone the same questions and rewards faster correct answers. Custom builds a question set from a topic you provide. Category mode keeps the entire match inside one subject selected from the Trivia Vault.

3. Get everyone ready

Players mark themselves ready in the waiting room. The host can remove an unexpected player before the match starts. Once everybody is ready, the room advances together so no player begins with an unfair head start.

4. Choose categories and answer

In Classic, the round host chooses from five categories or swaps the list. Every player then receives the same questions. Answers, timers, round progress, and scores are synchronized by the room rather than trusted to one player's browser.

5. Compare the results

When the final round or Battle target is complete, the results screen ranks the room and shows a question recap. Players can leave, return home, or continue into another match without guessing whether someone else is still finishing.
